01 / Single purpose

TRACE has one purpose: help users inspect and understand the visual design properties of an element they intentionally select on the active webpage. This includes computed typography, color, effects, dimensions, transitions, CSS animation information and visible media metadata.

02 / What TRACE processes

When you activate TRACE, it temporarily reads computed styles, limited visible text and accessibility metadata from the element under your pointer. For images, GIFs, video, audio, canvas, SVG, embeds and CSS backgrounds, TRACE may also read the source URL, format, intrinsic and rendered dimensions, playback or rendering metadata, alt text, captions and titles exposed by the page. Where the browser permits it, TRACE samples a small local copy of visible pixels to calculate a dominant-color palette. The active page URL and title may be shown locally to identify a saved reference. This information is processed only on your device and is not transmitted to TRACE, Opima Studio or third parties.

03 / Browser storage

If you choose Save, TRACE stores the selected element’s design recipe through Chrome storage associated with your browser profile. Depending on Chrome’s sync availability and quota, saved references and preferences may follow that signed-in Chrome profile. TRACE also stores a trial start date, the current usage month and the number of completed Full Reads so it can display the correct plan allowance. These counters never include the page URL, inspected text or element details. You can delete saved references from the TRACE library at any time.

04 / Permissions

• activeTab: temporary access to the current tab after an explicit click or keyboard shortcut.
• scripting: loads the inspector only into the active tab after that user action.
• storage: saves preferences and reference-library data through Chrome.
• downloads: saves a media file only after you explicitly click its preview or download control.

TRACE does not request permanent access to all websites.

05 / Collection and sharing

The current extension package has no analytics SDK, advertising, remote media analysis or TRACE-operated page-content database. Media descriptions come only from information already supplied by the page; TRACE does not upload media to an AI or vision service. We do not collect, sell or share website content, browsing history or saved references. The 30-day Pro trial requires no card, and installing TRACE never starts a paid subscription. Any billing activation requires a separate, explicit confirmation.

06 / Limited use

Any information received from Chrome APIs is used only to provide TRACE’s visible inspection features. Our use of information complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
